Blooming with Intention: The Q’anil Trecena

As of November 22, 2023, we’ve reached the start of the Q’anil trecena, the last in the cycle of 20 thirteen-day periods (the first being the Imox trecena).

Q’anil represents both the seed and the star. Its spirit animal is the rabbit. This nawal is associated with the blossoming of yellow flowers and gardeners both literal and figurative.

According to Birgitte Rasine/The Mayan Calendar Portal,

“A lush and fertile sign, Lamat, or Q’anil in K’iche’ Maya, brims with the energy of positive growth and abundance. Lamat carries the codes for all of life, nourishes perpetual regeneration, and represents the seed, corn, pride, harvest, and food.”

“On Lamat days, the Maya plant ideas and new projects along with gardens and crops, for this is the day that all things are made fertile and blossom.  Anything planted or conceived on a Lamat day, whether it is an idea, project, relationship or an actual seed, holds a positive future and is likely to bear fruit or turn out favorably, all in due time. This is also a propitious day to recover something presumed to be lost.”

It's the perfect nawal for the spirit of the current Thanksgiving season. Take the next 13 days to bask in gratitude for the natural abundance of life that surrounds us in every moment.

Here are the energies of each day in this trecena:

1 Q’anil – The beginning of a new intention. Scatter seeds of love, joy, gratitude and purpose today.

2 Toj – Make an offering of thankfulness for your relationships. Pay off debts. Focus on partnerships and decision making.

3 T’zi – Look within for truth, justice and unconditional love. Focus on your inner self, home and family. Connect with the loyalty and friendship of the dog.

4 B’atz – Bring your creative vision down to earth. Weave the threads of life in a colorful tapestry, grateful for the past, excited for the future and grounded in the present.

5 E – Make an effort to deepen your spiritual path. Great day for travel, especially related to work. Give gratitude to your feet and ask for protection from Spirit on your journey.

6 Aj – Connect with the stability of the corn stalk, bamboo plants and nature all around you. Focus on family and community connections and embrace your leadership skills.

7 Ix – Sing, chant, or otherwise make a joyful noise using your unique voice today. Connect with sacred sites, Mother Nature and the magic of the jaguar spirit.

8 Tz’ikin – Return of the eagle medicine. Take another look at the big picture, review your long-term goals and visions. Bask in genuine prosperity and abundance.

12 Kawoq – Connect with turtle medicine. Slow down, don’t hurry, enjoy your life. Look back on the storms and sunny days with gratitude for all the lessons you’ve learned along the way.

13 Ajpu – The pinnacle of this leg of your hero’s journey. Praise your inner sun, the golden light within and around you. Connect with Spirit and the ancestors as you walk, stumble, saunter and thrive on your human path.
