Today, 3 Kame invites us to descend into the inner sanctuary and face what lives in the darkness, recognize that transformation happens in the depths of introspection, and trust that our inner vision can illuminate our deepest shadows and bring forth our true light from within.
Essential Questions
- What part of myself am I afraid to look at?
- What patterns or beliefs are asking to die within me?
- What wisdom lies hidden in my shadow?
“Meditation is not something different from daily life; do not go off into the corner of the room and meditate for ten minutes, then come out of it and be a butcher—both metaphorically and actually.” ~J. Krishnamurti
I may project an image of serenity and balance as a yogi and yoga instructor, yet I can act irrationally and be overly dramatic in my words and behaviors when I am not feeling centered.
I am afraid to look at my blind spots, which by their nature are either usually or completely hidden to me. My defense mechanisms include but are not limited to denial, projection, avoidance, relaxation to the point of laziness, and hiding out well within my comfort zone.
When seen in the light of awareness and compassion, these habit-patterns can show me their wisdom, and they will consequently, eventually, evolve and change.
My aspiration is to blur the line between formal meditation practice on the cushion or mat and the informal practice that is the rest of the day, the rest of life. The little and big moments. The steps on the path. The connections we make with other breathing, loving, hurting, healing beings. The love and hate, kindness and forgiveness we give ourselves and others.
The work of 3 Kame entails descending into our heart’s inner sanctuary where the shadow lives and trusting that awareness and compassion are the path of transformation.
Maltiox, Nawal Kame.
