Today, 2 Kan invites us to recognize the wisdom and power that flows through conscious partnership, honor the fire and surrender required in relationship, and understand that the deepest transcendence comes when two people authentically live and grow together.
Essential Questions
- How does my relationship reflect my inner power and wisdom?
- Where am I called to balance control with surrender?
- What transformation is asking to happen through this partnership?
My husband and I have been together for 14 years and married for almost 13. His nawal is 2 Kan.
Our relationship has lasted all this time despite great challenges and differences in our makeup, cultural backgrounds, personality traits, life philosophies, and interests. We’ve shared countless precious moments of daily life, the steady hum of companionship and getting to know one another better with the passage of time. Simple homemade meals, cups of tea and coffee, household chores, time hanging out with our beloved pets, curling up and reading books or watching movies, listening to jazz and rock and salsa and cumbia, dancing in the kitchen. Taking domestic and international trips with our daughter.
We do not always get along well, and we sometimes hurt each others’ feeling and spend hours or days in spontaneous silent retreat during a clash. With time and experience, it has become clear that our conflicts are temporary and that we actually do have a transcendent compatibility. We complement each other; he is handy and resourceful when something needs to be fixed, I am good at remembering important dates and following through with pesky logistics like paying bills and making appointments.
B is loving and affectionate and has taught me to be more demonstrative with spoken expression, sweet nicknames, and caring caresses. This wasn’t often modeled by my own parents in my upbringing, though I was blessed with a pleasant, safe, and secure early childhood. It may not exactly have been modeled by his parents in his Colombia either as they have a very contentious dynamic, but it’s pervasive in the ether of Latin American culture: mi amor, mi cielo, mi vida, te quiero papi.
Now, we are renovating the foundation of our partnership, brick by brick, with the mortar of greater openness, honesty, clear communication, trust, and respect. We are choosing to rise above our differences and love each other.
I am grateful to my beloved serpent, my Cancerian house husband, my gardener, my personal chef, my life partner, my baby daddy, my soul mate and wish that he may be safe, happy, healthy and live with ease.
May you, too, be safe, happy, healthy, peaceful, and free. May all being know peace, joy, and liberation.
