Today, 4 Kej invites us to stand strong in our power while honoring our responsibilities, claim our freedom without abandoning those who depend on us, and recognize that true strength lies in the balance between personal liberation and commitments to family, community, and the Earth.
Essential Questions
- Where do I feel most free and most grounded?
- How do I honor my strength without dominating others?
- What does responsible freedom look like in my life?
I am a left-handed leftist. I am more liberal than conservative. I am an advocate for peace, love, dialogue, and understanding.
I am confused by a world that seems to be spiraling into chaos, misogyny, xenophobia, aggression, and crises of all kinds. Maybe it’s always been this way. Maybe the current condition of human society is the result of thousands of years of oppressive patriarchal dominance. Maybe it’s just becoming more evident because of technology and the ability for anyone to share and debate opinions. The lines between fact and opinion have blurred while the lines between “right” and “left” are more defined.
I am guilty of living in a silo and an echo chamber, to some extent. A few months ago when a distant relative began to extol the merits of the current US president, I sat in stunned silence. Unwilling and unable to have a conversation. The same happened again a few days ago. It’s unfathomable to me that a cherished friend, an educated and intelligent woman, could support this administration. While I feel guilty for my inability to maintain dialogue or connection, I also feel a strong intuitive no that I cannot deny.
Maybe that will change with time. Probably. But it may be too late to salvage the friendship.
I want to live my values with integrity. Honoring nature, my physical body, the sacred land, and my sense of responsibility and freedom which go hand-in-hand.
The energy of 4 Kej asks us to stand grounded in our convictions while remaining open to the possibility of growth, honor our freedom without weaponizing it, and remember that strength without compassion becomes rigidity.
Maltiox, Nawal Kej.
