Break Out of the Rut and Do Something Radically Different
Guest Post by Krisztina Samu, Acupuncturist
Lately, I’ve become aware of how I move through my days, in nearly an identical fashion. I’ve created a pleasant flow to my days, but they are often so similar. All of my belonging have been carefully selected, my bed, my blanket, the cup I drink from, the chair I sit in. They are the beloved props I use to open my day and close it again.
As I think back on the life-altering choice points of years past, I was always following a gentle nudge that prompted me to step out of the routine and do something radically different.
The greatest lessons in my life came from forging friendships with people who walked different paths in life. It’s easy to resonate with like-minded people, but nothing has taught me as much as when I’ve befriended people who are extremely different from me.
Who am I today? A healer and a resident of Lake Atitlán, Guatemala, a place I never imagined I would land.
Who could best harmonize with me? Perhaps other conscious, awakening souls in my area. However, who would stretch my realm of possibility? Probably someone who lives a radically different life. Am I suggesting that a Wall Street power broker would learn most from a friendship with a Buddhist monk who has taken a vow of poverty? Yes, indeed.
Who is the bridge to my maximum expansion? What character type is radically different from me?
Today I reflect on my past in busy suburban New Jersey. Many there work in corporate cubicles, their days tightly regimented, traveling six-lane freeways to get to work on time: a lifestyle that does not easily lend itself to flow state living. Mind overriding body, concerns over finances overriding free choice—it’s a common trap and clearly not sustainable.
On my last trip to the U.S., I noticed that in densely packed cities, fertility clinics are becoming a common occurrence. As we destroy nature in favor of commerce, we throw ourselves out of sync with the natural world. The basic biological process of female reproduction has been harmed.
Are you deeply out of synch with nature’s rhythms? Or do you know someone who is?
We are holding a space for such women at the Moon Medicine: Women’s Deep Healing Retreat from August 17-24. We invite women who need to reconnect to the basics like the four elements of earth, wind, fire, and water. A retreat is an opportunity to simplify a complicated unnatural life and become whole again. It’s a meaningful gift to oneself to take the time to reconnect to the elements slowly as nature intended, with mindfulness and purpose.
