Dog Days: Tz’i Trecena Journal Entries
“I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word in reality. This is why right, temporarily defeated, is stronger than evil triumphant.” ~Martin Luther King, Jr.
Tz’i embodies the loyalty and love of the dog. This nawal invites us to examine our sense of truth and justice. Tz’i brings an invitation to reconnect with our body’s wisdom, asking us to look at our shadow and vices and release suppressed emotions. The greatest gift of Tz’i is its heart-centered connection and unconditional love.
The next 13 days comprise the trecena of T’zi. According to Mayan day keepers, these days are good for examining our concepts of and beliefs around (material and spiritual) law and authority, fidelity, order, accuracy, and sexuality. Tz’i energy reminds us to avoid ambition, pride, envy, lies, crime, ignorance and ingratitude.
The trecena of T’zi calls us to live the paradox of cultivating beginner’s heart-mind while honing our skills and knowledge in our areas of authority.
Yogic Practices for the Tz’i Trecena and Tz’i Days
Asana
o Cat/dog stretch (cat/cow spinal flexion from the hands and knees, followed by moving the hips from side to side, slowly wagging the tail and looking in toward the hips)
o Cobra/upward facing dog
o Downward facing dog/plank slow flow
o Warriors I, II and III
Pranayama
o Belly breathing
o Breath of fire (rapid and active exhalations, passive exhalations through the nose)
Meditation
When you feel an emotional reaction arising, observe yourself from a place of curiosity and ask yourself about the origin of the emotion. Where did it come from? Allow the emotion to arise and stay conscious of it. Feel the emotional charge and let it move through you. Search for guidance and companionship to help you with this process of emotional deprogramming, as companionship benefits this nawal.
