2 Kawoq – Rain Dance

Kawoq is the rainstorm, the cleansing force that creates sacred space for new life, embodying Grandmother Turtle’s patience and the midwife energy that brings birth and rebirth. Kawoq governs ceremony, the divine feminine, and the powerful cycles of transformation that wash away what no longer serves.

The number 2 brings duality, relationship, and choice: the energy of standing at the crossroads and choosing between two paths.

Today, 2 Kawoq invites us to choose between holding on and letting the rain wash things away and to stand at the threshold and decide what needs cleansing. Today, choose slowly, deliberately, and with patience. What new life do you want to birth into being?

It’s not raining yet here in Guatemala, though it should be. Rainy season typically starts in May, but it has been quite dry so far this month. Today being 2 Kawoq, it’s the ideal energy to do a rain dance, to pray for rain, for the plants and crops and animals and humans that direly need it.

I’m thinking about my beloved friend Nancy, who lives here at Lake Atitlan half the year and is currently on a solo bicycle tour across the USA, from the east coast to the west coast. She is in Kansas now. Here’s her blog about her journey.

I am thinking about how much I appreciate being at home, having quiet hours to fill with writing, reading, watching documentaries and movies, doing yoga, cooking, etc. I am moving at the pace of Kawoq these day, slow, patient, and expansive. Rainy season (which coincides with the low tourist season, typically from May through October) gives me the gift of more time for myself and more connection with family and friends.

I am comparing the calm and contentment I feel now with the ominous angst and listlessness I felt precisely one year ago as my ill-fated trip to England approached. I am grateful to feel grounded and centered and to know that even when times of sadness, stress, or doubt arise, they will pass and I will learn something from them.

Maltiox, Nawal Kawoq.
