Toj is the nawal of sacred fire, offerings, and gratitude, representing the spiritual practice of giving thanks for all that sustains us and recognizing that reciprocity is the foundation of right relationship with life, the Earth, and the divine. This energy teaches that gratitude is not passive appreciation but active participation: we express our thanks through ceremony, offerings, and the way we tend the sacred fire within ourselves and in community.
The number 10 brings manifestation, community, wholeness, and the energy of hands working together. It’s a day for collective healing, bringing intentions into visible form, and creating through shared effort. Today, 10 Toj invites us to manifest our gratitude through concrete action: make an offering, give something back, honor what you have received, and tend the sacred fire with your community. Gratitude becomes real when we gather together, our hands work in service, and the fire is fed and tended by many.
Today held an extraordinary energy. A special morning fire ceremony for Tara with Nana Ixkik. Namesake of the moon goddess from the Popol Wuh, the Mayan creation myth. A colorful and aromatic offering. The sacred count of days. A reunion of old and new friends. Bringing V and W back together after 13 years. Two of my great heart teachers. One man, one woman, one a longtime heart teacher, one a newfound mentor.
I could barely do the interpretation. My mind felt like it was in a realm beyond words.
My sacred tobacco conveyed moments clarity and moments of shying away from my path and purpose. It reminded me of the importance of setting boundaries and protecting my energetic field.
I am grateful for the opportunity to give back in honor of all I have received. Grateful for my mind, heart, and belly button. Grateful for the ancestors who are present here with us. Grateful for the ears, the listening, the silence. Grateful for the rocks, stones, and crystals. In the end, we all stirred the fire.
Maltiox, Nawal Toj.
