Q’anil is the nawal of the seed, the harvest, and the ripening of all things. It translates to “yellowing” and represents ripening, fertility, abundance, growth, and elegance. Q’anil is the golden corn, Earth’s generosity, and the cycles of planting and reaping that sustain all, reminding us that abundance is something we cultivate through patience, care, and alignment with natural rhythms.
The number 9 brings divine feminine energy, completion, and the wisdom of the grandmothers. It is a day that honors women, celebrates cycles coming to fullness, and invites us to trust the natural unfolding of things with grace and surrender. Together, 9 Q’anil is a powerful day to give gratitude for the harvest that is already here, to honor the women and feminine wisdom in our lives, and to trust that what we have tended with love is reaching its ripening. On 9 Q’anil, the seeds we planted are becoming golden—what you tend with love will flourish, and the harvest comes in its own time.
My heart is open when I notice the magical details of nature around me. The red and black butterfly fluttering among the flowers. The parade of leaf-cutter ants marching in a row along the stones. The cloud formations drifting across the vast sky.
My heart is open when I feel safe, loved, and protected. When I feel it’s acceptable to cry, laugh, and express anger, shock, joy, or melancholy. When I trust the person I am sharing with to truly listen and accept me with compassion and without judgment.
My heart is open when I am practicing and teaching yoga. It’s a lifelong honor to share this wisdom that has transformed my life so much for the better. When I can drop down into my heart and body and integrate my mind with my feelings and intuition, that empowers my heart to blossom even more.
My heart is open when I am focused and mindful rather than distracted or scattered, thinking of what’s next, what’s tomorrow, what’s next week or next year versus what is right here and now in this present moment.
My heart is open when I am able to embrace each fleeting feeling, sensation, idea, memory, plan or projection fully. Allowing it to be there and knowing that it too shall pass, no matter what it is or how hard or easy it feels. Everything is always in flux. Life is dynamic and flowing by nature, even if it it sometimes feels stagnant, stuck, or heavy.
Maltiox, 9 Q’anil.
