9 Tz’ikin – Fly High Grandmother Eagle

Tz’ikin is the nawal of the sacred bird, abundance, vision, and the ability to soar above earthly concerns to see the big picture. It is the energy of joy and happiness, prosperity, good fortune, and the eagle: magnificent, far-seeing, able to rise above the details and perceive patterns and possibilities. Tz’ikin teaches gratitude for abundance in all forms—material wealth, beauty, opportunity, relationships, health, creativity—and reminds us that prosperity flows most freely when we recognize how much we already have.

The number 9 brings divine feminine energy, completion, and the wisdom of the grandmothers. It is a day that honors women, celebrates cycles coming to fullness, and invites us to trust the natural unfolding of things with grace and surrender.

9 Tz’ikin asks us to spread our wings and soar, look at our life path with gratitude and wonder, and recognize the abundance that pulsates around us all the time. We were born to fly, so lift your gaze, open your heart, give thanks for the blessings that surrounds you, and trust that you are held by the divine.

The deeper you go, the higher you fly.

Kundalini (kopoya in the Mayan tradition) doesn’t just move up through the spine, into the crown chakra, and out into the sky. It also moves down, through the body, down the legs, out through the soles of the feet, into the heart of the Earth.

Going down into the deep, dark, shadowy cavern empowers our rising up into the heart of the sky.

This is not the story we are usually told about ascension. We are taught that spiritual evolution means leaving the body, transcending the earth, rising above the mess and pain and limitation of being human. But Tz’ikin knows better. The bird does not reject the ground—she pushes off from it. She needs the earth beneath her feet in order to soar.

And today, Tz’ikin asks me to spread my wings and see the big picture. To take the bird’s-eye view of my life from way up above. To put everything into perspective.

From this height, I can see patterns I could not see from the ground. I can see how the challenges of the past year were not detours but necessary turns in the path. I can see how the people who left made space for the people who stayed. I can see abundance pulsating all around me, all the time—even when I am too caught in the weeds to notice.

But I could not see any of this if I had not first gone down.

Down into the grief. Down into the uncertainty. Down into the parts of myself I would rather avoid—the fear, the doubt, the rage, the tenderness that feels too vulnerable to expose. Down into the shadow cavern where the roots grow deep and the earth holds everything that the light refuses to touch.

Astral travel is possible because we are grounded. Big vision is possible because we have done the inner work. The sacred bird soars because she knows where home is.

Tz’ikin teaches gratitude for abundance, and today I am grateful for both: the depth and the height, the roots and the wings, the earth and the sky. I am grateful for the divine feminine aspects that have been awakening in me—the intuitive knowing that does not need proof, the emotional awareness that no longer terrifies me, the receptive creativity that lets inspiration flow through me instead of forcing it.

I am grateful for the big picture. For the perspective that comes from flying high enough to see that it all makes sense, even the parts that hurt.

The deeper you go, the higher you fly.

Maltiox, Nawal Tz’ikin. Thank you for the wings. Thank you for the vision.
