In the sacred Mayan calendar, 10 B’atz carries the energy of weaving, creation, and the art of becoming. B’atz is the nawal of the thread, the loom, time, and consciousness: the force that weaves experiences into story and transforms life into art. It governs creativity, writing, music, movement, and self-expression. B’atz is also the monkey trickster who reminds us not to take our thoughts too seriously. The number 10 brings manifestation, embodiment, and completion in the physical world; what has been imagined begins to take form. 10 B’atz is a powerful day to recognize how your creativity, habits, and choices are weaving the fabric of your life.
The tapestry of my life is technicolor, patchwork, handwoven, soft, and vast. The choices I’ve made, especially since age 18 when I moved out of my parents’ home, have led me to this here and now. Some threads have been chosen consciously, many others grabbed in moments of confusion, rebellion, or longing. All of them belong in this weaving.
It happens to be Christmas Eve today, and I’m on the Pacific coast of Guatemala with my partner and daughter, soaking up a few days of Vitamin Sea. The light is strong, and it gets too sunny and hot during the midday, so we rise early, walk the beach while the sand is still cool, take a dip in the salty waves, and retreat into shade when the sun catapults high into the sky. Life feels blessedly simple in this rhythm: salt air, bare feet, shared meals, laughter, hammock time.
Today, 10 B’atz reminds us that creativity is not only what we make but how we live as individuals and weave our lives together. It’s the way we arrange our days, respond to change, and mix work, rest, devotion, and play into our time.
My life has not followed a straight line (whose does?), but it has a red thread that keeps leading me back to presence, beauty, love, art, and meaning. I see how each chapter, risk, and unraveling makes room for new colors to enter the textile. I give thanks for the hands that taught me how to weave, the patience to keep going, and the joy of making something real out of lived experience. The tapestry is forever being woven.
