8 Toj – Eternal Gratitude

In the sacred Mayan calendar, 8 Toj is a day of balance, reciprocity, and sacred exchange. Toj is the nawal of offering, gratitude, and energetic repayment—the understanding that life moves in cycles of giving and receiving. It governs devotion, service, ceremony, and the conscious tending of our relationship with Spirit, Earth, and one another. The number 8 brings harmony and justice, aligning the material and spiritual worlds through integrity. Today, 8 Toj reminds us that when we give from the heart, balance is restored and blessings flow naturally.

I am grateful to have found yoga early in this lifetime.
I am grateful for my parents and for a stable, happy early childhood.
I am grateful for my siblings and the shared history that binds us.

I am grateful for my life and for my existence.
I am grateful for my mind and its ability to think, plan, question, and reason.
I am grateful for my heart and its capacity to love, feel deeply, and act with kindness and compassion.

I am grateful for my body which carries me through this world, allowing me too stand, walk, stretch, hike, swim, dance, travel, and move. I am grateful for my intelligence, resilience, and healing path.

I am grateful for my partner for his care and support, and also for the challenging moments when we are at odds and must work things through. Those moments, too, have strengthened us as individuals and deepened our bond as a couple.

I am grateful for my daughter and for the precious opportunity to witness her becoming the sharp, kind, creative, and unique young woman she is.

I am grateful for my cats and dogs, for their unconditional love, companionship, and pure adorableness.

I am grateful to the Mayan elders for sharing their wisdom and worldview with me patiently over the course of many years. I am grateful for the teachings of reciprocity, balance, and remembrance they continue to offer.

I am grateful to the elements, the directions, time and space, and the ever-available grace of the here and now.

Maltiox, 8 Toj.
I am grateful for the work I have done, and for the work I have yet to do
