11 Kej – Walking in Balance

After the deep surrender of 10 Kame, we arrive today at 11 Kej, the Deer. Kej is the guardian of balance, grace, and the sacred path. Kej walks between worlds with quiet confidence, reminding us that freedom is found in presence.

This morning, I don’t feel radiant with purpose. I woke up groggy, a little bored, and mildly irritated by nothing in particular. I didn’t leap from my bed with joy, and that’s okay. I’m not in a rut, it’s just a mood. Waves of feeling rise and fall with the breath. This too shall pass.

Despite this mild heaviness, I look around and soften. I see the green shimmer of leaves outside my window, my cat curled up on the coffee table, the feathery clouds drifting across a blue sky. In these mundane moments, I find presence and gratitude.

Kej reminds us that even when the heart feels dull or weary, we can root ourselves in the living world: the trees, the soil beneath our feet, the steady rhythm of our breath. Kej teaches connection: to the body as temple, to the land as teacher, and to freedom as the quiet knowing that we belong exactly where we are, as we are.

To walk with Kej is to honor both stillness and movement, to move gently through the day with love and respect for all that supports us. Strength is born not in striving, but in returning—again and again—to balance.

May 11 Kej bring steadiness to your steps,
May the simple act of noticing remind you:
you are alive, you are here, you are free!
