5 Tz’ikin – Working toward a Vision of Prosperity and Joy

Today, 5 Tz’ikin invites us to put focused effort and disciplined work toward manifesting our vision of prosperity and joy, soar with clarity toward our goals while maintaining centeredness, and recognize that the effort we invest bears fruit.

Essential Questions:

  • What is my vision of prosperity and joy?
  • What focused effort am I willing to invest to make it real?
  • How do I stay centered and joyful while doing the work?

A year ago, I voluntarily walked through the heavy metal door of a private psychiatric hospital in San Antonio, Texas. The door clanged shut behind me, and I immediately regretted my decision. It was an act of survival. (Read the full story on Elephant Journal.)

Only recently have I realized that I was rebelling against the oppression I felt in my roles as wife and mother, breadwinner and upstanding citizen. The primary factor in my breakdown was toxicity in my marriage. Now my husband and I are working on it with more honesty and intention than ever before. Looking into attachment styles. Going to couples therapy. Having more conscious conversations. Practicing yoga together.

It is tender, real work.

Only with the passage of time and the gift of retrospect do I see the larger pattern at play. I embrace all aspects of my shadow and light. I know I am on a lifelong path of healing and transformation that sometimes gets treacherous. The challenging times I’ve faced enable me to navigate the rocky path with grace, gratitude, and laughter.

This is what 5 Tz’ikin teaches: the vision of prosperity and joy requires focused effort and disciplined work. A year ago, I was in the darkest night of my soul. Today, I am soaring toward a vision of a healthier marriage, a more aligned life with more writing and yoga integrated into my days, and a deeper integration of my shadow and light. The eagle’s perspective shows me how far I’ve come. The work continues—therapy, yoga, conscious conversation, tending to the garden of my Self. Now I do this work with greater presence and joy, knowing that every effort I invest in healing bears fruit. The path of 5 Tz’ikin: isvision made manifest through sustained, heartfelt effort.
