Kame represents the transformation of energy. The physical body dies and decomposes, but consciousness continues in some unseen orm. Kame energy is considered auspicious and positive, encouraging us to hold our loved ones on the other side of the veil in our hearts and memories.
Today, 1 Kame invites us to plant seeds of transformation, remembrance of those who have passed away, and respect for the ultimate reality of death.
We are beginning a new 13-day trecena of facing our fears with intention, processing our grief, and honoring the wisdom that comes from accepting our mortality.
The owl is the spirit animal of Kame, watching from the shadows with ancient eyes. These 13 days call us to face our fears with intention, recognize death as natural and even beautiful, and understand that accepting our mortality is what gives our lives meaning and urgency.
What needs to die so that something new can be born? What are you ready to transform?
Guided Meditation for 1 Kame
Close your eyes and imagine yourself standing at a threshold. On one side is everything you’ve known: your past, old identities, and versions of yourself that have already lived.
On the other side is mystery, darkness, and the unknown. You cannot see what’s there yet. Breathe into this liminal space. Feel the owl watching from the shadows, silent and wise.
You are planting a seed today. A willingness to let something die so that something new can be born. Speak the name of what you’re ready to release. Give it to the owl. Trust that death is not the end. It is part of the great cycle of birth-death-rebirth.
“Today we’re younger than we’re ever gonna be.” ~ Regina Spektor
My mom likes to give me a piece of wry advice, echoing the words of her father: “Whatever you do, don’t get old.”
And although I cannot tell her, because she would not be able to hear me, in fact (and unsurprisingly), my viewpoint is quite the opposite.
Get old. Age. Enjoy each moment, each day, each year to its full extent. Not only the peaks but also the valleys. And even the depths, the shadows, and the heartbreaking times. Celebrate your years, stand tall and proud as you age with dignity and grace. Stand in your wisdom, gleaned from sheer life experience.
Yes, there are aches and pains. Yes, the body breaks down. Yes, challenges arise around death, fear, mourning, and grieving. Nevertheless: be here and now. Grateful for your life and existence. Grateful for death and nonexistence, also known as the swan dive into the great unknown. The way beyond. The big mystery. The cosmic joke.
