In the sacred Mayan calendar, 13 Kawoq carries the energy of completion through community, nourishment, and collective care. Kawoq is the nawal of family, midwives, rain, and the shared heartbeat of the village. It governs emotional intelligence, cooperation, and the wisdom that arises when we recognize we belong to one another. 13 is about fulfillment and ascension, spirit and the ancestors. It’s the closing of a cycle and integration of its lessons.
Today, 13 Kawoq reminds us that we do not arrive alone. Whatever growth, healing, or transformation has occurred over the cycle has been supported by others. This is a day to give thanks for our people: blood family, chosen family, teachers, neighbors, and spiritual companions. Kawoq teaches that strength is relational. The rain falls for all. Our personal and family healing ripples outward.
13 Kawoq reminds us that completion is communal. As one cycle closes, let gratitude flow like rain. Honor the web of relationships that nourishes you. Offer your care in return.
Maltiox, Nawal Kawoq.
I have birthed one daughter. She is now 13.
Somehow, in an instant and a lifetime, our little family has gelled into its own rhythm. Communication flows like rain, usually. Not always. Of course. No one is perfect. No family dynamic is flawless. We are living beings growing and interacting in real time.
13 Kawoq reminds me that patience is an active, daily devotion. Patience with myself. Patience with my daughter. Patience with my partner. Patience with every human I encounter, each carrying their own story.
Self-love.
Self as other.
Self is other.
We are all one living organism, breathing, stumbling, and rising. The rain falls on everyone equally. The lessons, too.
Thank you, Grandmother Turtle, for the steady medicine of this trecena and for reminding me to move slowly yet surely and to trust the long arc of growth.
Maltiox, Nawal Kawoq.
