In the sacred Mayan calendar, Tz’ikin is the nawal of vision, joy, abundance, and perspective. It is the energy of the eagle who sees from above. Clarity comes when we rise beyond fear, scarcity, and short-term thinking. Tz’ikin governs prosperity both in material form and as right relationship with opportunity, timing, and trust. Eight brings balance, ethical alignment, and sustainability. Our vision is rooted in integrity and reciprocity; what we receive is matched by how we give. Today, 8 Tz’ikin invites us to count our blessings and align our work, choices, and values so that abundance flows. This is a day to name what is working, refine long-term direction, and remember that true prosperity is spacious, relational, and deeply connected to the elements.
My work is a blessing.
What I do. Where I do it. With whom I collaborate and who I serve. The freedom to choose the when, the why, and the how. None of it is accidental, nor is it guaranteed. It is a gift.
When I look back, my career path is anything but linear. It meanders. Years in advertising and marketing, then in K-12 education. Each chapter taught me something essential. Gradually, I found my way onto a unique cobblestone path shaped by intuition rather than titles.
Today, my work lives at the intersection of creativity, service, and devotion. I am a freelance writer and editor. A consultant in retreat center spaces. A yoga teacher. A retreat leader. An interpreter of Mayan fire ceremony. These roles weave together into something meaningful.
On 8 Tz’ikin, I am reminded that abundance is not only money or achievement, though I am grateful for the financial stability and freedom my work provides. Abundance, for me, is relational. Elemental. Embodied. Here at Lake Atitlán, prosperity is alive in the elements themselves.
Earth: the ground beneath my feet, volcanoes, the mountains and trees, the flora and fauna that teach resilience and patience.
Water: Mama Atitlán, the rain that cleanses, the tears that soften, the constant reminder of change and flow.
Fire: the sun, the stars, the candle flame, the sacred fire that carries prayers skyward and returns wisdom to the heart.
Air: the wind that moves across the lake, the breath of life, the invisible force of inspiration and communication.
Tz’ikin teaches me that vision is sustained by gratitude; blessings multiply when they are named. Work, when aligned with values and service, turns life into a prayer. Today, I give thanks for the wide view. For the freedom to choose meaning. For the wings that carried me here.
Maltiox, Nawal Tz’ikin.
Here is a soft, spacious closing meditation for 8 Tz’ikin, suitable for ending the post or reading aloud:
Meditation for 8 Tz’ikin
Take a moment to pause.
Feel your feet on the ground.
Feel the breath entering and leaving your body, effortlessly.
Allow your awareness to rise gently, like a bird lifting on warm air.
From this wider view, notice your life as it is:
the work you do, the places you go, the people you serve,
the unseen threads that support you.
Notice what is already abundant.
Breathe in gratitude.
Breathe out gratitude.
Feel the presence of the elements around and within you.
Earth holding your roots.
Water flowing and cleansing.
Fire illuminating your path.
Air carrying inspiration and change.
Let your vision soften and expand.
No need to grasp or strive.
Just allow. Receive.
Silently offer thanks for your skills,
your path, your freedom.
Rest here for a few breaths,
rooted and winged at the same time.
May your work be aligned.
May your vision be clear.
May abundance flow in ways that benefit all.
Maltiox, Nawal Tz’ikin.
Thank you.
