Today, 2 Kame invites us to
- choose transformation over stagnation
- honor the duality of life and death, of endings and beginnings
- stand at the crossroads and decide what parts of ourselves are ready to die so that something new can be born
- hold our ancestors in our hearts
The only way out is through.
Facing our fears to overcome them is not easy or fun, but it is necessary, sooner or later.
I’ve identified my fear of confrontation, especially in the context of my marriage. When something triggers a certain repeat loop between my partner and me, my tendency is to withdraw, feel sad, cry (or worse, hold back the tears), and avoid discussing the topic at hand.
I’d rather not go there. But going there, having a difficult conversation, is the only thing that will help us both grow and change.
It’s worth it. The delayed gratification comes when I see an improvement in my willingness to be open, honest, and to say what I feel without blaming him.
Yesterday, in two sittings, I read Strangers, a “memoir of a marriage” by Belle Burden. Her story of the abrupt end of her 20-year seemingly idyllic marriage and how she handled the aftermath is compelling, well-written, and ultimately an inspiring message of the importance of self-love, confidence, and open communication—first with oneself, then with family and friends, and ultimately (for a writer) with the faceless audience of readers.
Despite being shamed repeatedly by many in her community for having the “nerve” to speak and write about her divorce experience, she did it anyway. She shared her story via the Modern Love column in the New York Times and eventually through her book. And it resonated with me and certainly many others.
This is the energy supported by 2 Kame: choosing transformation. Choosing to let old patterns die. Choosing the challenging conversation over comfortable silence. Choosing growth over stagnation.
What must die so that something new can be born?
