3 Tz’ikin — The Inside Joke

Tz’ikin is the nawal of the sacred bird, abundance, vision, and the ability to soar above earthly concerns to see the bigger picture. It represents freedom, prosperity, good fortune, and the understanding that we are meant to fly free. This energy embodies the eagle, condor, or quetzal: magnificent, far-seeing, able to rise above the details and perceive patterns, possibilities, and the vast interconnected web of life that we cannot see when we are stuck in the weeds.

Tz’ikin teaches gratitude for abundance in all its forms—material wealth, beauty, opportunity, relationships, health, creativity—and reminds us that prosperity flows most freely when we recognize how much we have.

3 brings introspection, reflection, and inward focus, asking us to turn our attention within, meditate on the inner landscape, and connect with the vision that lives in our own heart rather than seeking it outside ourselves. Today, 3 Tz’ikin invites us to focus the power of the mind inwardly, meditate on thoughts and visions without attachment, and discover the abundant joy and prosperity within us.

Today I received a beautiful gift.

A necklace with a symbol of the sacred chalice.

This was a gift I was to have received in Glastonbury, England last June on a women’s retreat. However, I never made it to Glastonbury because I had a personal crisis and chose to fly home to Texas and chose to commit myself to the psych ward.

But today was a special morning because the teacher, Alison, who led the retreat in England, is here at Lake Atitlán. This morning I interpreted a fire ceremony for her retreat group, and right beforehand she gifted me the necklace. After the ceremony, I asked the Tata to bless it.

After the ceremony, I had the honor and pleasure of interpreting 17 personal readings with Tata Tomas (from Spanish into English) for guests.

Today is the day of happiness and shining our golden light. Joking around, being lighthearted and fun, allowing our tears to flow. Knowing that tears are of joy, not of sadness; that behind the tears is happiness.

On 3 Tz’ikin, I can see now: nothing was lost. Everything that needed to happen did. The necklace found me. The work I love called me back. The abundance of today—interpreting ceremony and readings, receiving blessings—is the harvest of everything I moved through last summer.

Gracias, gracias, Nawal Tz’ikin. Alison. Tata. All the guests who had readings today. The ancestors. The chalice that waited for me until I was ready to hold it.

Maltiox.
